THIS WEEK IN THANET

The UK and Thanet was buzzing this week; the Tour de France was in the French region of Kent; Hamilton thrilled on the racing track at Silverstone; Jamie Murray produce the first British win at Wimbledon for 20 years; but what could have been better than enjoying a fantastic weekend in Ramsgate. The thrill for me was not so much the great power boats or the copious amounts of land based activities but the fact that Ramsgate was alive with people enjoying the music fireworks and the rare summer sunshine. Well done Thanet and Ramsgate.

The Isle of Thanet Extra covered well, the Eye sore view on contemporary Turner Toilets. Primary school kids could design a better more imaginative shape and I prefer the look of the Arlington flats. The design does look like a giant toilet block and is not unlike the Battersea power station building but with less interesting use of material. And Sandy I can’t agree Margate does not necessarily need a contemporary building We have that it our ugly library and council office build.

I looked at a tourist information leaflet this week and it mentioned 84 places of interest to see in Kent. Rochester had 9; Deal had 2; Dover 3; Canterbury had several, the number which I can’t quite remember; Thanet had one, yes only one, Quex Park!!
Thanet is very lucky that it has such wonderful beaches but successive councils over at least the last 25 years has not invested in Thanet tourist industry and everything cost so much more now, investment is expensive.
